I'm brand-spanking-new to fishing and am planning to take my son to Lake Lavon for a weekend fishing trip. I heard that there are some fishing piers there, but I can't seem to find any information about them. I saw the US Army Corps of Engineers map at http://www.swf-wc.usace.army.mil/lavon/Information/Lavon%20Lake%20Map%20Final.pdf but it lists boat ramps, parks and some other items, but not piers (or did I miss something?).

Is there any information online about LL piers? How many are there? How to get to them? Do they cost anything (like they do at Lake Ray Hubbard... $8 + $1 per rod/reel)? Any prefered piers?

Thank you.

the only fishing pier I am aware of on the lake is at Clear Lake, it is at the ramp due east of the entrance shack. There ia a nice cove there and my grandsons have caught several nice cats there (2 to 4 lbs). There is also a pier at the dam, on the discharge side. No fees, the fishing is free.

Good luck
Don

Thank you, Don.

As far as pier fishing, is there a lake that is better than others? I've been looking at Lavon, Ray Hubbard ($8+$1/pole) and even White Rock Lake (and I'm looking into other DFW area lakes, like Lewisville).

Thanks.

We found the fishing pier at Clear Lake Park. As we approached, we saw a couple fishing near the pier in a boat catch a small fish... but we had no luck (Sunday). The pier is free, but the cost of accessing the park is $1 per person (not bad, much better than $8/person and $1/pole).

It was still a nice day out.

You can buy a season pass for your entire family (one car) for 30 bucks. The pass is good for one year from the date of purchase. Gives you access to all COE parks (day use) not just on Lavon, but any COE Lake. May not be worth it to some, but if you have a boat it includes the launch fee as well.

sorry that I told you fishing was free. I am so used to getting the annual pass that I forget you have to pay if you don't have one. My bad. Glad you had a good day anyway.

No biggie... I can live with $2 icon_cool.gif

Are there any other piers at Lake Lavon? I found another fishing pier at Lake Ray Hubbard that (I believe) is free (still need to check it out). I can live with the $1 access fee to a park, but the $8 access for the LRH pier gets to be a bit much after a while, especially when we're not catching fish.

Also, I looked up the pass online and I think they increased the price. Is this the pass http://store.usgs.gov/pass/annual.html or is this the pass http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/spdest/parkinfo/passes/parkpass/faqs/

jj.. You might want to consider fishing some of the local town park ponds.. For instance, Bethany Lakes park in Allen... There are 5 ponds that have Bass, Bluegill & Catfish... No cost at all and chances for the little to catch a fish... Plano & McKinney also have Town Lakes & Ponds.

Good Luck icon_smile.gif

The passes in your post are not valid at U.S. Army Corps of Engineers facilities. You can purchase a Day Use Annual Pass at any USACE operated campground. The cost is $30.00 and it is valid for 12 months from the time of purchase. It will be honored at all USACE day use facilities in the nation. USACE passes are not valid in Collin Park or TPWD Parks.

Thanks for clearing that up... I'm new to COE parks (and to fishing)... I was trying to find a way to purchase the pass online, but only found the info page about their "Age and Disability Discount Passes"

http://corpslakes.usace.army.mil/visitors/passes.cfm

I guess they don't sell the regular pass online... no real biggie, I suppose.
