I am freakin tired, but Simon and I decided to hit the lake on Thursday night and stick out an all nighter since the fish weren't biting in the morning. I got bait at East Fork while Simon played in the traffic icon_rolleyes.gif

I think we got setup on a spot around 8. Simon's second fish within 20 minutes of getting started was a 30 pounder icon_eek.gif First one of those I have seen in a while icon_biggrin.gif

My numbers could be off, but I am sure he caught about 4 fish over about 15 pounds.

He caught way more fish than me out there. I finally got ticked about it and we left icon_biggrin.gif

And you can watch PLENTY of fireworks just sitting up around Highland on the lake. I am guessing we watched about 100,000 dollars worth being ripped off between 2 sites.

Wow joe you must be tired if you forgot to mentione your 42 lb'er .

Joe's two big fish were 42 lb and 20 lb.
My big fish were 30 lb 15lb and 14lb times two.

the fishing was very sporadic, almost non exisatent after 10 pm but it started up again for a very short period around 6 to 6:20 am.

During the night we would get the odd bite here and the odd bites there.
And Joe stumbled across his 42 in the deep of the night. It was fun watching him being run around the back of the boat at 2 am. icon_eek.gif icon_eek.gif

Joe, thanks for the invite and once again thanks for another great trip fishing.

We decided if we were going to post something to learn, it was that if the fisihing is very slow during the day right now, then it seems a good time to fish is from 7 unitl 10 or 11 pm.

here are some pics

Nice fish. Were you fishing in the shallow water during the night or were you deeper?

Where did you park your vehicle all night? I would like to do some night fishing (evening into the night) but I'm a little worried about parking my vehicle at most ramps during the night. Did you park at highland?

we launched at East Fork because of the fact that we were leaving vehicles all night. Lot of people there this time of year and that makes folks weary of doin bad things.

You can ask all day long. We fished 2 foot of water and maybe up to 3.5 a couple of times, but 2 foot was the more productive depth for us. Tried to find some spots where we could cast without fear of hanging up every cast.

THis was mostly a test to prove to myself that the fish are very inactive and that they are only really feeding at certain times. Shad absolutely everywhere, so I don't think they have to work for it when they finally to decide to eat. Morning came along and there was only about a 30 minute bite and it QUIT. You only seem to get a couple of good hours of fishing and then be ready for slower times. Good news for us is that the fish were better sized. That can keep you interrested for alonger time.

We missed a couple more that would have beat the 15 mark. Oh yeah, be ready for some good gar action...

ya could have been there and fished right up the cut within shouting distance of us. we just got up in the middle of the gap and let it happen. i don't know that i am gonna go for an all nighte anytime soon, but i sure could hit the lake from 6 - 11 without much trouble.

drawout, we didn't take the official doc with us. I thought about it, but if I had to be honest, I didn't expect we would catch anything over 16 pounds. 2 fish into the trip, I wish I had icon_biggrin.gif when i got the 20 in the boat my hopes of bigger fish went up. usually if you can catch one their may be more nearby.

anytime you wanna do 6 til 11 let me know, Joe....

All nighters HURT the next day. It was definitely worth it for what we caught but I couldn't do it too often.

Very nice fish guys. Don't usually fish from the banks at night but now definitely considering it. Thinking I might try that first walkdown before tickey creek park . Always think some moccasin has my ankle on his agenda at night though. Jray, might need some backup for this mission.

Very nice Joe & Simon! Glad someone has livened up the forum a little. When I don't get to fish, I come here to get my fishing fix and it's been kinda dead of late.
