I went there and fished with 3-day old shad on July 5th but did not catch anything. I am using large hooks and BIG bait so that eliminates a large population of fish. My sister and her friend caught some very small catfish and perch on worms. Then the next day, I was able to find fresh shad and what looked like an excellent spot but did not catch anything there either. However, I was using 15 poles and only 2 baits were still on the hooks when I rolled them in to move. One whole fresh shad was about 13 inches, live at first, and the other was a whole shad about 5 inches.
I caught a lot of shad in that area but no fish. I was in 2-3 foot of water.with it being shallow on one side and a 6-8 foot creek channel on the other side. Registered a lot of fish in the area but got skunked
So, after wrapping up and heading back to the ramp in the whitecaps, I had 2 rods out to troll while on the way back to the ramp. Had some real deep divers to target the stripers.. So I trolled thru the whitecaps as they occasionlly blasted over the bow. Nothin to do but turn on the bilge pump and keep on trollin for the stripers but no luck on them either.
All I can figure is the cats ad stripers must be biting at night because they sure wasn't at 7 am-11am. in the creeks near the dam or in the open lake.
Here's a pic of my spot the second day. It was a beautiful area with the hight cliffs, boulders, and trees.
Can't wait to go back
