I realize the catfish around here could eat this 18" bruiser, but Smallies have to be the toughest fish around for their size. They do NOT quit. Yes that's a jacket I'm wearing in July. The Mille Lacs cold fronts felt great after leaving the Texas heat.

I would love to catch a smallmouth one day just due to their fierce fighting reputation. I have tried to target them at Lake Texoma before but have never been able to make one bite. I have even seen them swimming in the shallows by the rock cliffs and thrown every lure know to man at them and they just watch it go by. Haven't got them figured out yet...

Sounds like they saw your boat. I've caught one 17 incher out of Texoma. If you can tell me where they are, I can catch 'em. I'm already planning a camping trip to Texoma in March to get some pre-spawn when they're fat and aggressive!

I mainly see them around the rocks near Eisenhower State Park. If you launch at the Denison Dam and stick to the south shore to the west there are several coves that are lined with rocks. The water is real clear and sometimes you can even see the bottom even in the deeper water. I have never tried but I also hear you can catch them along the rip rap near the dam as well.
