Its legal.
My buddies in E. tex hunt carp and cats (this year only) on LOP. My granny tractor cultivates most of the carp in her "big garden", the cats hit the hot grease.
Some don't think its "right" to kill a fish to eat. Its all in the eye of the beholder.

Do you guys eat the fish?
In England we fish for carp because it is the only way to catch any fish of any size. there are very few fish that go over a few pounds that are not carp. I think that is why I enjoy the catfishing so much !! _________________ Life isn't like a box of chocolates..... more like a jar of jalapenos. What you do today, might burn you tomorrow !!

I dont eat carp around here, but I do like to catch carp, they fight hard, its fun.
In austria we do catch carp alot, and also eat them, they are actually pretty good if you cook them right, carp and pike along with trout are the gamefish in europe for the most part.

| I bet most people that say they would not eat carp (including myself) have never even tried it. I do strongly believe that if you kill it you should use it in some way. Bait, garden fertilizer, food. Something. Just my $.02

Brian no treehugging here . All the fish I shoot are used or donated to the illegals in town who eat them. Now as long as it's not illegal I am not bothered by what any sportsman does. When I find trotlines with dead fish on them and no gear tag it put my knife to good use. _________________ We sleep soundly at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on our behalf.

Brian carp were brought to the US by england so the pesants would have a fish to eat. In other words they are a feral fish, or not native. We have the buffalo as a native sucker fish. _________________ We sleep soundly at night because rough men stand ready to do violence on our behalf.

There was a show on over the weekend on the WFN HD Channel, which by the way just showed up one day on Dish Network and I have been watching it like a crack addict every since, and they were bow fishing for carp. Cook What You Catch was the name of it, anyway they finally got one and then came the part where they cook and eat it. The chef did everything possible to mask the flavor, and they still could barely eat it. I'm going to take their word for it.
If you don't have that channel...get it! Or don't get it if you are married...

I would agree with you if we were killing game fish. These rough fish stir up the water and kill vital aquatic vegetation. More game fish are slaughtered by the presence of rough fish than any amount of carp all the bow fishers in the world could kill. Ask any fish biologist and they will tell you that the rough fish need to be controlled. They are a nuisance! It is like killing a rat infestation in your home. Most of the guys I know send the fish to a rendering plant or feed hungry people with them.
You should be careful about the judgments you pass on bow fishers. Every carp that is killed is potentially saving several game fish.
