Have any of you used these? I need some more reels and was at Wal-Mart before Cooper and I picked up 2 of them. They are $35 each. I was very pleased with them. They hold like 300 yards of 25 pound mono, have a very smooth drag and a loud clicker. I like the clicker lever too. I may buy a few more. I think they will work out well on the coast too. If they hold up. They cast well too.

I forgot to ask you after the tourny how they faired. I guess pretty good?

Honestly I really like them. I hooked a 20+ fish on one and I was really happy with how it handled. The drag was great and you get a lot of power out of the gears. It was very smooth. The only thing I dont like is that there is a slight clicking sound when you reel the line in. A lot of salt water reels do that. I like the PAT reels but I am getting some rust on the spools from taking them to the coast and I am looking for a slightly bigger reel so I can use it for salt water too. So far I think they will do the trick. I have seen In Fisherman using them. The price is definitely right too. I am using the 30L.

Scott, I have 2 and they are a pretty good reels.

The real question is, do they catch fish. Slim and myself have several crappy reels that are about to fall apart, but they catch fish, so we keep them.

Funny how that works. I also have one ugly stick that I've repaired several time, tip and eyelets falling off, but it's a fish catching machine, so it stays in the boat. icon_lol.gif

At the NTTC tourney at TWok, I talked with David Hansen and that is the only reel he uses. Said it was inexpensive and held up real well. Man those things have one huge power handle!

You can get a lot of power out of them and they are really comfortable.

Do you have the one with the Alu spool or the graphite.. I've seen both at Wally World.. Went to their website and they no longer show this reel, so perhaps it is out of production. It's cheap enough though it might be worth it, especially if you like it..

I have the one with the graphite spool. I think that this one was replaced with a newer model. Thats a shame though because these seem to be really well made. The clickers seem to be well made and are loud.

Cabelas shows these online in combo's! Including the line counter version. I would think since they have combo's that they probably would sell just the reel in store. Has anyone tried the Cabelas Depthmaster Reels? Shows fish fro free for 60 days and return with no questions if you do not like them... http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?id=0017602117773a&navCount=13&podId=0017602&parentId=cat601360&masterpathid=&navAction=jump&cmCat=MainCatcat21404-cat21406-cat601360&catalogCode=8IS&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601360&hasJS=true

So now it's a new model. Anyone looked at that one yet? Not as pretty without the metal but still, if it works...

I just bought one of those reels when I was in Galvaston last week,It was $35 at Acadamy & they spooled it for free . I then went out surf fishing with it & caught 2 small sharks & 4 decent Gaftops with it.I LOVE IT!

So you have both the old model and the newer plastic looking one? I have never tried to use a baitcasting reel and the economics of the situation dictate that I not blow a bunch of money. If I like it I might need a couple more.

ScottB...

BPS had them with a rod for $50. I bought one about a year ago and have had no problem with it so I bought the last 2 at BPS about 3 weeks ago.
