PostPosted: Thu, Jun 05 2008 05:00 pm Post subject: Shaddie McShad!! Reply with quote Back to top

I bowed to peer pressure,(that's polebender), and got a cast net. So far all I can throw is taco shapes but I will keep trying.

Any ideas where I can find some shad? Times? I am not getting my little boat out in this wind so I guess it would be a matter of throwing on one of the ramps.

Any help is appreciated/

Brad

It will be hard to cast it into the wind so go somewhere on the southside of the lake, With this much wind you may find you can just go pick up shad that gets blown onto the shore.

Slight dilema with this wind Cheaper.

Shad get blown on or off ramps with a good wind. BUT nets are pretty hard to throw into the wind.

If you are throwing taco's I would suggest trying a little less harder. Try doing some pathetic throws, it can be weird how to much trying can be what is messing it up.

Use as much of your core instead of your arms also.

Now that you mention it Dewey, I probably could pick up some that has blown ashore. Especially today.

How long can I keep shad in the fridge and have it still OK for bait? You guys were correct on the frozen from the local stores, it doesn't work at all.

I would them on ice not in the fridge for up to 3 days. With as busy as work is right now I may not need shad for a long time. Hot weather is great for business but bad for my fishing time.

i apologize for making you a better fisherman.. icon_lol.gif

even a taco thrown cast will outperform store bought bait. throw near ramps and the edge of bushes right now.

Yeah, even a taco throw may knock a couple shad unconscious and allow them to float to shore. And if they are really close to shore you may be able to drag a couple in on top of the net. icon_smile.gif

I agree with Liverpool_fan. Try not throwing it so hard. I usually throw a taco when I try to toss it hard. I would also suggest watching different throwing methods on the web and them practice them to see which one works best. I practiced about four different throwing techniques before I found the one I like.

Threw for shad at daybreak at "the hill" on Sat. Filled a small lunchbox no problem.

Too bad the fish were not biting to well at Ray Hubby cause I wound up "chumming" with most of the shad. Maybe I shoulda stayed at the hill.

So Lou A, and all, is daybreak the shaddiest time for netting? Are they there before daybreak at all? If they are in the shallows earlier than that I could go get some and then get home in time to get dressed for work.

I guess they are there before sunrise too. I haven't tested that. I usually get there at or just after sunrise and theres shad.

I don't think they come in for the sunrise so I guess they are there already icon_confused.gif
