|
|
Well, I have upgraded a bit on my reels and rods with some baitcasters but I still have a couple of big spincasters. I am pretty sure my five year old and other visitors won't be able to cast the baitcasters so I am going to keep a couple of the others.
Any line that is nice and slippery with minimal memory and twistiness for me to put on those things? Actually, if I can find something like that I might just put it on everything. Yeah. _________________ "I was getting too many snakes in the house, otherwise I would have stayed,"

| Well gotta agree with Chase on this deal. Mono line over bout 17 pound test gets too stiff and has too much memory for spin cast IMHO. Try an extra limp mono for better performance but ya is gonna give up abrasion resistance. Everything is a trade-off. Braid lines have no memory and are very thin compared to mono. But, it costs a lot more and can cut into the eyes on cheaper rods. Again another trade-off.

Mr. P, you kind of confirmed what I was thinking but I are not so smarts yet!! Can you shoot a brand name at me? Medium price mono limpy? I'll get some 15 for the spincasters and my spinning reel.
I hadn't thought about the test being a factor but now that you mention it, it seems obvious. _________________ "I was getting too many snakes in the house, otherwise I would have stayed,"

| Berekley Trilene XL comes to mind. Wal-Mart carries it. Fairly cheap.

Thanks for the help, sir. That is one that I had found web searching and I remembered Wally World carrying it. _________________ "I was getting too many snakes in the house, otherwise I would have stayed,"

| Honestly the best question to me is what are you fishing for? Because if its catfish you can use something fairly bright and easy to see if you want.

I fish by touch. I put out five rods and put my right hand on the line for #1, my left hand for #2, right foot for #3 and so on......... _________________ "I was getting too many snakes in the house, otherwise I would have stayed,"

| I use 30lb ande green on all my spinning reels and have had very little problem with memory. Also it is relatively thin for 30# test line. Use to use cajun red but the stretch and memory was not to my liking. Biggest reason I use the 30lb opposed to a 17-20 is that the abuse of sunlight, back of truck scraping, riprap rocks and everything else that goes with bankfishing. Just seems to last longer.

| I use the mono for backing on my spinning reels and use 20# braid for fishing. It casts exceptionally well. I haven't noticed it cutting my eyelets but I need to check that. I for my catfishing I use snapper reels with dual drag, one for fish one for rocks.

Back when I use to fish for Bas, all of my rod tips had cut marks in them. I was using monofilament. They looked like they had been cut with the corner of a file. Of couse that was before we had ceramic guides. I think I still have a couple of them. _________________ Capt. Larry

How does that 65 cast relative to lets say 20? Do you have trouble breaking loose from snags?
