Does anyone know how to catch rough fish in the winter? I don't need to catch giants, just a few little 'ens.
I don't even really know where to start. Up north we'd just spear them through the ice this time of year. Carp are best in the winter since their meat firms up a bit in the cold water. And I need some cat-bait. _________________ Life is short- fish hard.

Caught a huge buffalo in the cast net by the power plant discharge a couple of weeks ago. Let the net go to the bottom.
I'm pretty sure that is legal.
Other than that I have only caught a couple here and there using worms.

I catch them every now and then in the winter while bottom fishing with worms. Catch about as many in the winter as the summer. I've been bringing a can of corn with me to open and try to target carp + buff but have never gotten around to opening it.
The "other" forum has a pretty active rough fish area. Perhaps they could give you winter time carp/buff tips...

Check out the other forum like Lou said, the guys over there have been hauling some big fish the last few months, and they say it gets
better in the winter.

The other forum does have a lot of info. That's where I learned how to fish carp and Buffalo. It can be as easy as chumming with range cubes and rabbit food, with sweet corn for bait. At times the carp and buff seem only to hit boilies over a bed of calf manna. If you really want to learn how, go to the other forum and send a PM to a guy named Jason Johonneson. He's on a fishing trip with a european writer right now, but when he gets back he will probably meet you at his slip on Hubbard and teach you the basics. _________________ Crague Canion
