A friend and I were taking my canoe out to try and put in at the Trinity River north of Lavon. Turns out it's one of those I-can-see-it-but-can't-get-there-from-here situations, so we descide to put the canoe in at Highland and just goof off. My friend gets me to bring my cast net and talks me into trying to cast it out. I just about turned the canoe over and threw a taco. He's never thrown a cast net before, but is convinced he can do better. Sure enough, he figures out how to throw the net without rocking the canoe! He basically grabs the bottom of the net in a big bunch and lobbs it in an arc, and coming down the net opens. Much to our surprise, he pulls up the net and it has a gar and about five shad in it. We paddled around and threw for about an hour, and came away from it with a one gallon bag full of shad. icon_biggrin.gif

I have thrown the net from my canoe but I will only do it if I am alone. I don't trust the movements of the other person in the canoe. I am going to make an outrigger from some pipe and a boat bumper to add some stability.

I would be in the water so fast it wouldn't even be funny if I tried that.
