Would anyone care to share strategies for finding bps? My thinking was to pick a depth and follow the shoreline at that depth.

Also, does the corp publish where they drop bps? I found a RR map that shows corp bps but I haven't found one for lavon.

As a bonafide member of the Brush Pile Inspection Industry, I need to have all GPS coordinates for the known brush piles given to me so I can personally inspect them as to the quality of their design and location.

Please submit forthwith.

Try north of the dam and south of 380... icon_razz.gif

In all seriousness, look on points or drop offs close to the banks key depth lately is 17'-20'

I'll tell one way to find them. I said this a long time ago on TFF and some people got mad at me.

Watch for other people fishing for crappie. When they leave go see what they were doing. Most the people fish brush piles didn't sink them, somebody told them about it or they found them.

A month I was at Lewisville at Sneaky Petes. I saw 3 different bass boats bass fishing this one spot in front of an appartment building. As I was pulling out of the marina I trolled over where they were and found a BP in 5' of water. I didn't have a bass pole but I did have a crappie pole, I jigged around there and caught a bass.

I kind of figured people would be tight lipped on this topic but it can't hurt to ask.

To contribute to my own question... I've only found one bp on lavon while I was trolling 50 yards off the shore line. Wasn't looking for it but stumbled across it.

I've got over 100 b/p's and submerged trees that I fish marked on Lavon.

Get in 15-22' water and cruise down a bank.

Obvious places are the ones that are protected from a south wind.

Some are big but most are fairly small. Maybe the size of a truck bed.

The submerged timber may only be one big stump sticking up 5-6' off the bottom.

I know of 12 around the island alone icon_rolleyes.gif '

And no, I didn 't drop any of these icon_cool.gif

I started fishing Lavon about 4 years ago. Most of my "fishing" trips the first two years were half fishing and half exploring, documenting and listening (Jerry and Pauls seminars)/reading the posts on here. It has really paid off for me. I have slow days but, seldom if ever skunked. Just keep cruising and watching the sonar - you will find them because, as Jerry said, they ARE there.

Thanks for the tips..I'd been wondering the same thing.

Another question...once a brush pile is found, what is the BEST way to STAY on top of it? Especially, if there is some wind to contend with?

I bought one of those marker buoys at wally world for $5. You drop it and the line stops coming off once the weight hits the bottom.

Then, I just troll and jig around the buoy. There might be a better way but that's the best I can figure out.

I also have to agree with Wylie Jeff. I've learned a lot from this forum. I still get skunked now and again but it's not nearly as bad as it was a year and half ago.

I keep a buoy close by. As soon as I see a b/p I throw the buoy up wind of the brush. I circle back around and see where the brush is in relation to the buoy. You don't want the buoy in the brush, just up wind is ideal.
