Finally found the time to get around to posting these pictures...

Took the family to Northern Wisconsin for a little R&R back in June, part of my semi-annual pilgrimage back home (the other one is in the fall for some of those big 'ole northern bucks). This summer trip is always my Musky hunting trip and I finally got my first legal fish, right at 40"! icon_biggrin.gif

It's only taken me 15 years to catch a legal, but it was worth the wait. I actually caught two on the same day (full moon) and both of them were new PB's, if the second one would only have been caught first.

For those of you who have never been to Northern Wisconsin, you don't know what you're missing; during the middle of June the lows are generally between 48 and 52 and the daytime highs are somewhere between 68 and 75, perfect weather to be on the water. This is also the time of the year when the Smallmouth Bass, Bluegill, Crappie and some of the other "panfish" are spawning, which makes for some pretty good fishing if you're looking for eaters.

In addition to the Muskies, we caught Smallmouth Bass, Largemouth Bass, Walleye and Northern Pike. We weren't really targeting these other species, but they sometimes have a habit of hitting the smaller Musky baits.

Oh yeah, and for those of you who are wondering how a guy can be happy about only catching two fish of his targeted species during a two-week trip; Muskies are notoriously finicky fish. They have this frustrating tendency to follow your presentation right up to the side of the boat and then just kind of disappear into the depths. It can make you crazy when you see that "fish of a lifetime", but that's Musky fishing. icon_confused.gif

All in all it was a great trip, two weeks away from work and a little break from this heat; there's nothing better than that - in my opinion.

That would be The Wind Drift Resort... www.winddriftresort.com You do have to book about a year in advance, as the people who have a cottage for a specific week get the right of first refusal for the next year. Check their website around the middle of January for openings, as that is when deposits are due, so that's when things tend to open up.
