I have to ask this. This is the first year I have fished for crappie this much in the summer, but based on my experience and posts I've seen - is this a bad year for Lavon? I mean is the crappie population down? Or have they just fooled us thus far?

I think we're seeing the effects of the drought of a couple years ago. During the drought, there was not much cover for the hatchlings, and my guess is the survival rate was poor.

Last year, the spawn was probably pretty good due to all the cover. That's why most are catching a bunch of small fish.

Just my theory...Greg

my year was not to bad, fished in the creeks. was on and off with the gates open but once the water level eased it was pretty good for about 4weeks and then it was just to hot and they went deeper

Worst year in recent memory. I'm praying the winter will be better but I have my doubts. The last two years have been awesome, I think we put a hurting on them icon_rolleyes.gif

There are some quality fish but I'm just not sure the numbers are there.
Next couple years should be good for numbers but look for another bad one in about 3. If we have another spring like this one, it'll be bad in 4 years too.

Just my opinion.

I've lived here since 2002 and this is the worst year I have experienced by far.

I did manage to catch 10 good keepers yesterday afternoon in about 3 hours.
