Have not baited them yet but did test the 40 degree angle for the rod to slide down the tube at the lake and they work fine. Here are the costs:

Noodle Jug Materials
1- 1 inch inside dia. 1 1/4 outside diameter 10 foot PVC Sch40
(Home Depot) $ 1.80
cut in 8 15inch pieces = $ .23 each
1- 57 inch Swimming Noodle (contact brent) $ 4.00
cut in 8 7inch pieces = $ .50 each
1- 5/8 inch solid steel rod 36 inches long (Home Depot) $ 8.60
cut in (7) 5inch pieces = $ 1.04 each
2- per jug 1 inch diameter PVC end caps (Home Depot) $ .30 each
2 per jug = $ .60
1- package of 8inch nylon ties (Home Depot, WalMart) $1.50
1 tie per jug = $ .05 each
1- package of 25 trotline clips (Academy, WalMart) $ 6.50
4 per jug = $1.00 per 2 hook jug
1- package of beads (Academy,WalMart) $2.50
4 per jug = $.16 per 2 hook jug
1- package of large catfish 3.0 hooks (Academy, Walmart) $2.50
2 per jug = $.10 per jug
1- 150 yard reel of 50lb test monofilament line (Academy, WalMart) $2.00
30ft per jug = $.40 per jug
1- Name & Address tag (from Tex) email Tex for price texasbigtoe@hotmail.com

Total per Jug = $4.50

Also I used my Milwaukee metal grinder to cut the 1/2 inch rods with in about 2 minutes. see picture.

We tested these rascals last sunday. They work like a charm. Easy to put out, easy to retrieve, highly visible. But if ya'll start making them, don't use Ed's color!

Remember when laying these out to give yourself about 10 inches of slack, after the brick has hit the floor of the lake.
Then loop the line 3 times around the end clip, then close the clip, slide the rod down to the noodle side, then set in the water. This will make the jug line vertical and minimize snagging. Plus when a Cat gets on... it will flip the jug up.

Any advice to a 1st time jugger? What conditions (depth, stumps, etc...) I'll be putting out about 5 noodle jugs next week. How about spacing? Thanks in advance!

1) I put 30 feet of 80 lb test line on each of my jugs. Then the hooks are at 3, 6 and 9 feet. Some people only use 2 hooks per jug (3 & 6ft) which makes it easier to handle and you can fish in 8 feet of water. I can fish at 12 feet on up with mine.
2) If the brick is big enough they dont move, so you can put them near trees and they dont get tangled because they are vertical. I would not drop one right next to a tree though, a big cat could pull it into the tree. I have some of mine dragged 5 to 6 feet by a larger cat.
3) I space mine about 20 feet apart, but that can be a function of the wind. If its very windy you will have to motor back to your "line of jugs" each time. I set out 14 each time I go, so I make sure I have the space for them and start upwind. The direction of the wind will determine the direction of your line of jugs.
4) Also you will want to bait the hooks with Shad first, throw them in the water, then the brick next, then hold on to the jug and unravel the line, giving yourself about 2 feet of slack when the brick hits the bottom, before clipping the line tight. It will take you a lot of time the first few times baiting these until you get the hang of it. I can now set my 14 out in an hour.
5) Another item is that when you get a fish on and you are pulling it up, they have a tendency to give one more shake when they get at the surface and come off the hook. So pull fast and into the boat when you get to that point.

I have heard redneck over on whiskerkitty say he has some white but I don't know where he got it..... TX law says all non commercial jugs have to be white

You can buy similar jugs at fishing_n_friends.com almost cheaper than you can make them. I bought mudcats flaggin jugs, and they work great, almost the same thing. only they are white, have to pay shipping tho.
