When the Texas sun heats up, it sure is nice to go someplace cool and catch fish like this 38" toothy critter.

You do understand that that is a scary ass looking fish, right? icon_lol.gif icon_lol.gif

I would cry and run away if I caught one of those.

Them gar were not "killed". They wuz GARMINATED with the GARMINATOR! Sounds so much better don't ya think kinda like being vaccinated! Turtles got to eat too!

Man that musky do look like a gar witout a snout! icon_smile.gif Are them musky good to eat?

Cheaper- They are kinda mean. She tried to bite my foot when we rolled her out of the net, and she still had treble hooks in her mouth. I'd be crying if I had a 3/0 treble in my mouth.

David- that's a Northern Pike, Muskies eat 'em when they're young. And yes they are good to eat bbq'd or smoked. Not as good as Crappies, Yellow Perch, or Walleye though. Problem is Northerns (as we yankees call them) have floating bones.

For some reason I can't see your pice but man fishing up north is pretty cool. I am heading up to Lake Erie for a Smallmouth/Walleye trip in 12 days, I can't wait.

I go up there every December for a weeks worth of stream fishing for Steelhead/Salmon also.

I am definitely interested in Mille Lacs for a trip sometime. If you don't mind PM me with some of the info on who you went with.

Thanks, nice cat by the way.

It is kinda funny how we say this is a trophy fish, but a gar that size most people would say is a junk fish. I love to catch anything that swims. The bigger the challenge the better. I completely understand killing them though, since there's so many of them and they eat the same prey as our big kitties.

Do anything eat gar? Maybe we should be cutting off their heads and using them for big bluecat bait? I have some 16/0 hooks I've been trying to find a use for. I might be a catfisherman...

Only problem I have with gar is they are hard to hook or swallow my circle hooks.

How long did it take to get the Slimmmmmmmmmmmm off your hands. They are Fun to Catch but Nasty, I have a uncle who owns a resort on Lake of the Woods and we used to fish form them in the river. You are correct about the bones.
