I had a few hours this morning from 6:30 AM - 9:30 AM and decided to try and find the crappie. I started north west of the island in 20-25 ft of water and fished the timber - nothing. Then I went to the timber bout half way between the island and 380... again 20-25 ft of water - nothing. I moved to some calmer water to the East and fished the timber in about 10-15 ft of water. This time I managed two crappie under 10 in. I only used jigs and mixed it up between white, white/red, chart, and chart/red.
I was hoping to do a little better but it was still nice to be on the water. I tried moving around from tree to tree like the other posts recommend but find it hard to do with a hand trolling motor. I troll up wind, tie, fish, untie and move. I probably spend 5-10 minutes on each tree rather than the suggested 2-3.

The fish have been suspended about 16-18' deep on the deep timber. Black/chart has been working better for me lately.
I can't get bit in less than 15' water.
Sounds like you were working the right areas. _________________ Jerry
