Well the old Dakota is about to crash and burn. icon_cry.gif

I've got an opportunity to buy a Durango for a very modest price. My question to you guys is, will I be able to keep the Durango from stinking to high heaven? Coolers of bait, cleaning fish and every thing that goes with our favorite slimy fish.

Tex, I know your one of the few that I can think of that has an SUV, how does it work out for you? Everybody else's input is welcome as well. Anybody that knows me well, knows that I carry the kitchen sink plus in my truck. I can usually live out of it for at least 3 days without having to go to he store. icon_lol.gif

Works out well for me except when I put a towel that isn't completely inside the tahoe, then it will get pretty rank pretty quick. Also have to make sure life vests are dry before going in.

Don't leave the landing net inside either after use.

I don't know if the Durango has this but in my 4runner the rear window can be raised and lowered. This works well for long rods and keeping the smell out. I'm usually taking the boat so I put all the stinky/wet stuff in the boat.

I had a Rodeo after owning nothing but trucks. I am happy to be back in a pickup. Just easier.

Ed has always used the expedition and it works OK for him.

I hear ya Shawn, but the price is about 2 grand under blue book, and I know the history of the driver/vehicle etc. I think some compromises will need to be made. icon_biggrin.gif

My brother in law's father in law has an older suburban he is wanting to sell. Not sure how much but the vehicle has been well cared for over the years. If you are interested, or anyone else for that matter, give me a shout and I will try to get more information.

If I didn't have two kids, I would go with the pick up. It would be easier to keep my feet dry when I launch by myself.

I struggled with that question too but since I really enjoyed the roominess of my old 4x4 suburbanso I recently decided to get a newer used one especially because of the VALUE I got from the lower prices these days. I would not have been able to afford one before the gas prices went up.

Personally, I like the security my SUV provides for my STUFF.
Since I do not really NEED a pickup anymore, but realize the many benefits of having a pickup, including being able to jump from the bed to the boat during wintertime fishing, I still like the SUV as I carry a lot of stuff to sporting activities for the kids teams and like to have the STUFF secure when I leave it in the parking lot.
I also have a trailer to move the bigger stuff that substitutes for the pickup too.
As for the stink, you gotta keep the stinky stuff outside in the boat or something. The life jackets tend to smell up the inside if left inside. Also, real good floormats are necessary throughout the vehicle to protect the carpet from the year round moisture that us fishermen are in and from wet, muddy feet and kids swimming.
Well, that's my .05

I use to have one of those racks in the pic above on my pickup for coon hunting....we would put our dog box on it so that when the hunt was over our tired dogs didn't have far to jump...we added brackets on each end that kind of went from the frame of the rack to the top of bumper and bent over for stability...if you get one make sure you put some reflective tape on it.

Good deals on pickups and SUVs are a dime a dozen, you just have to be patient.... if your current vehicle will last that long.

Now granted, knowing the history does provide some value, but is it enough value to offset it not being the ideal car. Only you can answer that.

Forgot about the feet getting wet issue, that's a deal breaker. Found an 06 Dodge 4 door p/u for 13,600. Think I'll stick to the p/u.

I think the truck will make a few more months, rear seal started leaking on the tranny on the boat ramp last weekend. Just got carry some extra tranny fluid with me.

Thanks for everybody's input.

TGIF, time for a bait run this afternoon. Been getting my arse handed to me on the crappie fishing, time to go catch Moby th Blue. icon_rolleyes.gif
